Why Delivery Dates Can't Be Guaranteed
Car shipping involves a truck driver traveling 500+ miles per day across multiple states, picking up and delivering vehicles at various stops. Federal law limits driving to 11 hours per day. Weather, traffic, mechanical issues, and other pickups/deliveries along the route all affect timing. No honest company can guarantee an exact delivery date.
What 'Estimated Delivery' Actually Means
When a car shipping company says 'estimated delivery March 10–12,' they mean the carrier expects to arrive within that 2–3 day window based on route distance and current conditions. Most shipments arrive within the estimated window, but 10–15% experience delays of 1–2 days.
What to Do About Delays
Build in a 2-day buffer when planning around your delivery. If you need a car for a specific date (job start, closing day), book with enough lead time that even a 2-day delay doesn't cause problems. AutoTransport AI provides real-time GPS tracking so you can see exactly where your vehicle is and get updated ETAs.
Refund Policies for Late Delivery
Most auto transport contracts explicitly state that delivery dates are estimates. This means you generally cannot claim a refund solely for late delivery. However, if a company's quoted timeline was wildly unrealistic (e.g., promising 3 days for a coast-to-coast shipment), you may have grounds for a complaint.
