What the Bill of Lading Is and Why It Protects You

This one document is your insurance policy. Here's how to read it, what to check, and what to do if there's damage.

    What the BOL Contains

The Bill of Lading documents: your vehicle's make, model, year, and VIN; its condition at pickup (dents, scratches, mechanical issues); the agreed transport price; pickup and delivery locations; and the carrier's liability terms.

How to Use It at Pickup

Walk around your vehicle with the driver and note every existing mark, dent, or scratch on the BOL diagram. Take your own photos as backup. Both you and the driver should sign the document.

How to Use It at Delivery

Compare your vehicle's condition against the pickup BOL. If there's any new damage, note it on the delivery BOL before signing. This documentation is essential for filing an insurance claim.

    Frequently Asked Questions

What if I find damage after signing the Bill of Lading?+

If you signed the delivery BOL without noting damage, filing a claim becomes much harder. Always inspect thoroughly before signing and photograph everything.
